Polo 1.3.8 info dump

Hey guys, I opened up the Polo project file and sorted out some issues like ogg files not playing. After I got them playing, The music then decided not to pause, check it was playing or adjust volume, so it was REALLY screwed up. But I got that working too. I also started on making a 2D Anaglyph mode. If it works out, maybe it’ll be an unlockable mode. But seriously, How many people have Red/Blue 3D glasses? Well, I do… but thats just me.

Oh! We also got the lighting engine to work without CRAZY amounts of lag, Heres a screenshot showing its beauty in the first level.

No promises, but I hope to get 1.3.8 beta released by Saturday.

Killing Floor server is back

Our Killing Floor server is back but with a twist. Its running a mutator called “HellFire” on the map kf-DeathBasinSands. Only Husks spawn.

We’ve played it for a bit and it sounds hard, but if you get a good method down, its not that hard. Head over to our killing floor server and give it a shot!

How Polo Effects Work

So today, I was showing some friends new screenshots of Polo Version 1.3.5 and somebody said:

lol really? that looks completely shopped. yeah right.

I dont like releasing the game until its tweeked and working properly. So I put this together to prove its not photoshopped. But believe what you want, you’ll find out once the beta releases.

Good News!

Awhile back we contacted the original composer of Polo asking him to contact us, So today, we got his reply. We asked if it was okay to use his song “In Your Arms” for Polo and he said Sure and discussed some other things as well. He even gave us some corrected bitrate versions of the song.

So I short, I present to you with the good news that we now have rights to use his song for the Main Menu of Polo! Good day! This event is now logged in the Revolve community calendar.

Old Polo – Did You Know?

Theres a lot I bet you didn’t know about the Old Polo Build 7 running on BBEv1. Lets take a look a few things.

  • The High-score list and update news no longer works?
  • Pressing CTRL-D enables debug mode
    • Left mouse click: Teleport to mouse cursor
    • Right mouse click: Spawn block at mouse cursor
    • F12 – Next level
    • F11 – Previous level
    • You can also see one way platforms with this mode.
    • You have access to a special hud at the bottom that shows different information.
    • Secret hidden blocks on Night Forest 1.

  • On the pause menu, press F12 to check out a crazy dev level (Also, hitting F12 from any level repeatedly will do the same)
    • If you continue to hit F12, you’ll find a splitscreen two player test and some deleted Night Forest levels.
  • At the end of the first Night Forest, over the level end and on, is a secret upgrade that allows you to jump while carrying blocks. If you bring the block through the entire game, you get an achievement.

Polo Dev Diary – Tutorial level

 

We’ve felt the motivation to work on Polo again recently, That’s how it works. We have these bursts of creativity, then it ends, we dont work on polo for a few months, Then have another burst of motivation for a week or two.

Alec has done a fine job of designing the “Tutorial level” which takes place in the Polo village outside Polo’s house when he starts on his adventure. The coolest part is you can see other little polos around and they talk to you went to walk up to them. Some of their text dynamically changes depending how far you get into the game, so you can always come back here and check out the village. Also it has some little secrets, which you’ll have to discover when you play it for yourself.


Other updates include:

  • Music now properly pauses and resumes when you toggle the music.
  • Right after the cinematic, you start on the tutorial level instead of starting at the world map.
  • Minor bug fixes
  • New tilesets
  • Alt – Enter = Hot keyed to full screen.
  • Alt – F4 = Actually exits the game now

Also I dont think we’ve shown this little guy here (as shown to the right). Hes called a Jeap. What does he do? Guess you’ll find out eventually (I cant remember if he was in the beta or not).

Anyway. We’ll try for releasing another beta within the next month after we get some other updates out. We still got somethings to knock off our spreadsheet before we can get heavy into level design.
